Mixed Results

I wanted to start off by wishing good luck to all of my fellow bloggers that will be participating in the WSOP main event. I wish everybody luck, and I hope Loretta can pull it off by winning the whole damn thing on a freeroll.

As for myself, I am obviously not going to Vegas for the WSOP. I had plans about 3 months ago to get out for the last $1,500 NLHE event, but with all of the things going on at home, with my wife extremely busy with her work, it would have been impossible. I do get the whole month of August to myself and would like to get up there for a weekend, but within those 4 weeks, I need to get over to Mexico City to get LASIK on my eyes, so that might put a kink in things.

As far as poker goes, I am really flabbergasted to say the least. I had been on a decent incline as far as cashes go in 6-man SNG turbos, and all of a sudden, I failed to cash in 14 in a row. 8x$6, 2x$11, 2x$22 and 1x$33. I finished 3rd in what seemed like all of them. And my bust-out hands are a series of the cruelest bad beats you ever did see. Aces getting cracked, straights getting flushed on the river, and in what seemed like the last 5 or 6 bust-outs, KK, QQ or JJ vs. A-rag with an ace hitting every frickin’ time.

I am not one to whine about bad beats, but it was seriously shocking the series of beats I took. If you added them all up together as a probability, the chances would be one in a million for sure.

Anyways, I had to take a break from SNGs, because I was just getting raped, so the last couple of days, I got in about 1,000 hands of 50NL. I just wanted a change from the norm. Anyways, the results over that time recouped the $150+ I lost playing SNGs. Most of the profit coming from these hands:

The second hand there is pretty sick, and I manage to hit running jacks to take the pot, 2 outs on the turn and 4 outs on the river, something finally went my way.

Those two hands, coupled with some other standard play at 50NL have me even in the last 4 days, which is wonderful considering how shitty I have been running in 6-man SNGs.

Anyways, no poker for me in the next 3-4 days, probably until the weekend. Hopefully we are having a live game at my house on Saturday, but if not, I will be grinding away at the virtual tables instead.

Thanks all for reading, good luck to everyone.

2nd place finish

The wife and her friends went out to the movies last night, so I found a spot to be able to play some poker for about 3 hours. I was considering playing a 180-man on Stars, but because I wanted to get done in less than 3 hours, I looked for a tournament with 60-120 people in it. Ultimately, I decided on a $3 tourney on FT that, when I registered, had about 90 people in it with 2 minutes left in registration. By the time I had tucked the kids in bed and returned to my seat 10 minutes into the tourney, there were 250+ entrants. Sigh…

First hand of significance came up just a minute or so after I sat down:

Seat 1: PJS JR (1,585)

I didn’t figure him for a limp re-steal with aces or kings, so I just went with the hand. Fortunately, my hand held up. From there, because I had so many chips in comparison to the blinds, I didn’t get involved in too many more pot for the next 20-25 minutes. I wasn’t really getting anything, so I just laid back and waited. I bluffed at one big pot that netted me about 1,200 chips, and then the next big one came up:

That one stung, and I got berated by everyone at the table for my limp re-raise, but whatever, I was ahead, like I thought I was, and I got sucked out on. What can you do? I got my chips back within a couple of minutes anyways…

I just didn’t feel right about the way he bet, and decided to lay it down. Maybe he had KQ or KJ, but I wasn’t sure, so I got out of there. I then won an 8,000-chip pot with top pair, crappy kicker to a guy who flopped middle pair and called me all the way to the river. I was now at 21,000 chips and going strong.

That was humorous actually. The match ended soon after that when I tried to bluff on the river and he caught me. Then I got my last 30k in chips in with KJ and he calls with AK, game over. $130 cash for a $3 entry is pretty good, though I would have like the $204 for first.

Visual proof:

Anyways, gotta get to work, but thought I would share my final table with everyone. Will post again soon, although probably won’t play again until Saturday night or Sunday morning.

Thanks all for reading, and good luck at the tables.

Just hanging around…

Pretty uneventful over the last 13 days or so since I blogged last. Blogging has definitely not been #1 on my to-do list. My wife is in the middle of her busy season with her business, things at work for me have been stressful, and the kids are taking up more of our time, so poker time has been cut into quite a bit.

Overall, I am not really worried about it, mostly because in August, I am going on a poker frenzy, with my wife and kids going away, I am going to be in the house alone for 30 days, so I will have plenty of poker to play.

Actual play has been limited to heads-up SNGs and 6-man turbos on Full Tilt. Here are my Sharkscope graphs to date:

Has you can see, I have very defined trends on Full Tilt, and my PokerStars graph is all over the map. I don’t really know the reason for that. All I do know is that FT seems to play differently, as evidenced from the graph.

I don’t really have much else to say at this point other than another congrats to Loretta for kicking more ass and making it to the Main Event on a freeroll. Nice job.

Hope everyone is well, and hope everyone had a Happy Father’s Day.

Standard Update

Wow, I just realized that it had been quite a while since I updated last time. I guess I have been a little lazy overall, with a lot of things going on in my life non-poker related.

We have finalized our summer plans, and I will officially be a bachelor for 30 days in August. My wife is taking all of the kids up to Canada for 2 months, and I will join them for the last month, but I will be on my own, no kids, no rules, no anything for a month (well, except for work.) That should be an exciting month on the poker front, and I am already looking forward to it.

Currently, poker has been so-so. Been playing some heads-up SNGs with some success, though I am still donking around at the $6 level. It is pretty funny how in these SNGs, that some people are willing to go AIPF for 35+ BBs with A-rags, K7-KT, and various other suited connectors. I like to shove when I get premium hands, and sooner or later, some donk calls you at a 70-30 dog or worse. I like it. :D

Played the $3+R on Stars a couple of times with no success. Both times, I have gone out 800-1000st place with AA vs. some lower PP and they spike a set. Really frustrating. Mainly staying with $6 6-man turbos and $6 heads up SNGs lately, as I never seem to have much time for more than that, and I am staying even basically. Nothing to exciting to show for my play the last couple of weeks.

Currently, my roll sits at about $525. After I cashed out before, I was down to $350ish, and I ran it as high as about $580, but I have since backed up a little. No cash games at all recently, as I don’t have to patience for that right now.

Congrats to Fuel, Loretta and Lucko for their recent success at the virtual felt. Sure would love to know the secret behind all of their success. I can’t seem to find mine right now.

Anyways, enough wallowing for now, back to work, and then some poker later.

Good luck to everyone.

Ryan
