The family is gone, and poker takes center stage. The next 29 days will be full of poker, TV, music, drinking, sleeping, oh yah, and working from 8-6 M-F. I got it off to a bang earlier this week, as I had a home game at 8, I raced home at 6 to play 2 hours of internet cash games before heading over.
I managed to be up about 2 buy-ins, with 2 key hands contributing to my success. The first was me raising in late position with 54dd to $1.75, the button calls and the BB raises to $4, I make a pretty loose call as does the button. The flop comes a dreamy 449. The BB leads out for $10, I min-raise to $20 with $25 behind, button folds, BB pushes all-in, I call obviously, he shows AA and doesn’t improve.
The other big hand of the day was a Fuel-inspired gem, with me raising with 55 from middle position and getting call by both blinds. Flop comes KQ5, perfect flop. SB bets out $4, BB calls, I call. Turn is an A. SB bets $6, BB raises $15, I push all in, SB folds, BB calls with AQ and does not improve.
I was up nearly 3 buy-ins about 10 minutes before I quit, but I got KK all in preflop vs. QQ and the guys flops a Q. Typical.
Headed over to my home game, a $50 rebuy tourney with 13 guys, all but 3 or 4 guys play very tight. Hence, there were only 9 rebuys, 5 by one guy. You can only rebuy if you are less than ½ of the starting stack, and that includes the add-on period, so the structure doesn’t really emphasize a lot of rebuys anyways.
About 15 minutes before the rebuy period ended, I am still near my starting stack, and pick up 55 UTG (6-handed) and raise, CO calls (very loose) and BB calls (tight). Flop comes 655. LOL!! It is checked around. Turn is a 4. BB checks, I bet small, CO raises, SB calls, I call. Before the river comes out, the button says, ‘all-in’ out of turn. When the river comes out (a J I think), the SB checks, I check knowing that the CO is going all in, he goes all it, SB insta-calls, as do I, SB shows 44 for a turned boat, CO shows 87 for a turned straight, and of course I show my quads. :D
I limped to the last 6 players, where I took 2 guys out in successive hands with AQ, both up against KQ, and both times I hit trip Aces unnecessarily.
On the bubble (4-handed), I pick up AA against the shorty that had moved all-in with K9 and take him out when I hit a set and he’s drawing dead after the flop. At this point, there is a huge chip leader, and one shorty and me in the middle. The shorty goes out with KT vs. the big stack’s AQ and we are down to heads up.
After I double up to get to a 2:1 chip disadvantage, I pick up JJ, big stack raises, and I re-raise all in, he calls with . . . 94?? Board comes T9447. LOL!! So sick. I was only in for my $50 and took home $330 for 2nd, instead of the $550 for first, but not bad at all. So far, I have played that specific home game 3 times, have only bought in for the $50 to start each time, and finished 2nd twice for a combined $630, so it has been pretty kind to me.
Then tonight, I played 7 $8 36-man SNGs for a Sunday Million seat. Managed to cash for $20 in 2 of them, and then this:
Not a huge cash, but it's something. This has my backroll back up the $750 level, which is up from $350ish after I cashed out everything to pay the mortgage.
Anyways, off to have eye surgery in Mexico City, so I will be out of range for the next 5-6 days. Hope everyone is well, and good luck at the tables.
Ryan
