I have been running so bad playing live poker these days, that I turned down an invite to someone’s home game that I have played before, in exchange for my wife wanting to have the night out, and me staying home to play online. I can’t think of the last time I did that, but I have been royally screwed playing live lately and not really in the mood.
I been running pretty well playing my 6-man SNG trial, I am up to 100 SNGs and have an ROI of 11%. If I could run like that over 1000 SNGs, I would be pretty happy. Plus, I got my rakeback yesterday, so I am feeling decent again about my bankroll. Usually I take my rakeback and enter a tournament that I normally would not (last time, I played the 50/50 on FT) but I don’t think I’ll play that tonight, will stick with the 9PM EST $26 donkfest, and see what happens.
Played a little bit of cash over the last few days, not really much to comment on, other than the play is super super bad on JokerStars:

I mean, did my bets not scream overpair? Guess not, or he felt like throwing his money away.
Other than that hand, not really much going on. I have played 7 step 1’s on PS for the WCOOP, which have generated 3 step 2’s and now 1 step 3 which I still have. Probably will play that tonight if I am feeling up for it.
My condolences to Loretta who busted from the main event. I was really hoping for you.
Hope everyone is well, talk to you all soon.

July 8 Update
Not much going on in the poker front these days. Haven’t really been playing much, my wife is busy, kids are out of school, so more of a handful, work is busy, same old story as always.
I have not played an MTT in quite some time, sticking to 6-man turbo SNGs on FT. My 500 SNG challenge is going ok, and through 73 SNGs I have an ROI around 9%. I guess that is pretty good, but not that exciting.
I haven’t played any cash games, and I don’t think that I have played online poker for more than 35-40 minutes in a row for at least 3 weeks. Kinda gay. Once everyone leaves on July 29th, that will change, but for now, things are slow.
GOOOOOO Loretta at the ME, and here’s hoping Lucko has a good run in the Caesar’s megastack. Rooting for you guys!!
Talk to you all soon.

Home game debacle…
I play a juicy home game about once a month. We usually play when my two ex-bosses are available. He bets on every flop that he is in and shuts down on the river if he has nothing. She only bets when she has the goods, but calls gutshots all the way to the river. The other players are very much calling stations, ‘just wanting to see one more card’ all of the time. It’s wonderful.
The one problem is that when you raise, 6x or even 10x the BB, you get at least 3-4 callers. When you flop the goods, you are going to get paid off all the way to the river. But if you are holding AA and the flop comes 368, you have to wonder if you have the best hand anymore.
Last night’s game can be summed up in just a few hands:
Hand #1: I have 66 in the BB. We are about 20 hands into the game, and no pot has been over $20. (We are playing $1/$2, everyone buys in for $200) I keep talking about getting some fireworks going, and that if everyone limps to me, I am going to raise. Of course, almost everyone limps to me in the BB and I raise to $15. 4 people call. Ahh, nice pot brewing. Flop comes T64, 2 hearts. Niiiiiiice. I lead out for $30 and get 2 callers. Turn is a K. Not a bad card, not a heart, I still have the best hand for sure. I lead out for $60 with about $100 behind. Everyone folds to the last guy who hums and haws for a minute, and says, “I just can’t fold this hand…” I put him on a flush draw, maybe with top pair, maybe two pair. He finally calls. River is a Q. I push and he insta-calls. I show my set, he shows AJ, no heart, fuckin’ gutshot runner-runner BS. REEEE-BUY.
Hand #2: I have QQ, raise to $12 and get 4 callers. Flop come QT8 2 clubs, I lead out get 2 callers. Turn is a low club, I bet, 1 caller, and the guy beside me goes all-in, I fold, they both have flushes.
Hand 3: I have AA, I raise to $17 after a lot of limpers, 2 callers. Flop is J62, I bet $50 and get 1 caller. Turn is a 9 and the villain insta-goes all-in for $400, I fold, he shows J9, what a bad push.
Hand 4: I fold to a $6 raise with Q8 which would have made quads and watch 2 other guys get it all in for a $500 pot, each having an A on a QQTQA board. Gay.
Hand 5: The only good one of the night for me. I have rebought again and I have $300 in front of me. Again, I make the comment about fireworks and that I am raising if it comes around to me limped. I get 44 in the BB and a lot of limpers, I raise to $12, 1 caller, another guy who only bets with good cards raises to $35, and I know I am behind now, but I call, other person calls, $120 in the pot. Flop comes 843. I check, and the 2nd caller insta-pushes for $250, re-raiser thinks about it for 2 minutes, he is wondering what I am going to do, and finally re-raises all-in to isolate, I actually thought about this for a while, as the insta-pusher could have 88, would be tell-tale of my night for sure. I finally do call, insta-pusher has 33 for a set of 3’s, re-raiser has KK (obviously) and I have my set of 4’s, which by some miracle of the world hold up and I take a $800 pot.
Somehow, through all of this $hit, I end up down only about $250 on the night, one of the guys was up $1,200.
Anyways, was a shitty night, thank goodness for my set of 4’s near the end of it, took away a little bit of the pain.
Won’t play any more live poker for a few weeks, and internet poker will be limited until next week. I hope to have another update mid-week next week.
Good luck at the tables everyone. Talk to you all soon.

Happy Belated Canada Day
Hope all of my fellow Canadians had a wonderful Canada Day. Our family and some friends got together to celebrate, had a few beers, dressed up in red and white, the whole bit. The kids ran around, did the slip’n’slide thing, ran around, got tired, went to bed early, and aloud for a quiet evening at the house after the party. Was very nice.
On the poker front, I have set out to play 500 6-man SNGs at the $6 level on FT and make an assessment of my play based on those results. If I can achieve an ROI over 10%, I will move up to the $11 level. If not, I will do another 500 games at the $6 level again and see if I can improve. So far, I am through 30 games, and I have an ROI of about 13%.
Even in 30 games, it is amazing the swings I have had, even playing the same way for all 30 games. I won 4 of the first 5 games, then didn’t cash for 11 games in a row, then won the next 3 games, shit like that. I like SNGs because the variances seem to be less than cash, but sometimes it’s amazing the swings you can have.
I am also starting the steps program on PokerStars, trying to qualify for one of the WCOOP events. Obviously, if I do something crazy like qualify for the main event, I would take the T$, but we will see. So far, I’ve played 3 step 1’s, and now have 1 step 2 ticket. We will see how that goes.
I am not playing any cash lately due to some huge losses in the last week, I was down $200+ in about 5 minutes playing 50NL the other day, most of the losses coming from once when I was AIPF blind vs. blind with KK vs. AA, once with I was AI post-flop on a J-high board with AA vs. AQ and he hit’s runner runner straight? That had was so fucked up. Couple of other bluffs gone bad, and about $230 was gone in a few minutes. So I am now down to $325ish in my roll, which sort of sucks, but that is why I am playing the $6 SNGs to build it back up. I should get a rackback payment in the next few days for $60ish so that will help as well.
The wife and I are doing great, and she heads up with the kids for vacation in 27 days. Ahhhh….
Peace out boys, good luck at the tables. A good luck Loretta and whoever else is headed to the main event. I will be rooting for you!
