No action this weekend
It was a slow weekend, with very little poker being played. With mother's day, my wife being busy with work, and the nanny off, it was a very busy weekend just going through regular activities. The kids had a birthday party, we went to the movies, and then I took my wife out for dinner last night, and so all of that translates into no poker.
My wife does have her trip planned for this summer and is taking the kids up to Canada for two months starting June 27th. Until then, I don't see a lot of poker being played, but after that, well, I see the opposite.

$6,000 Win!
Wow, my biggest poker score to date. Quick background - 16 guys put together a WSOP group, where we had a series of tournaments leading up to the final last Saturday, where the winner would get $12,000 for the WSOP main event, and the 2nd place finisher would get $4,000, with the idea of that going towards one of the prelim events.
We started the final with 2 tables of 8 people, with the average chip stack of approx. 10,000 and blinds at 25/50, so there was a lot of play. I hit the nut flush on the river early on a guy that flopped trips, flopped a boat with pocket 9s with my opponent flopping trips, hit a set of 2s, 3s and 4s and quickly found myself with 25,000 chips. With 5 players left on the other table, and 6 on ours, I got it all-in blind vs. blind with AQss against AJcc, and even though there was a J in the door, I ended up with a flush on the river.
I entered the final table 1st in chips with 35,000 chips. There was one other player with about 30,000 and nobody else had more than 17,000. There were 3 very short stacks, which we got rid of in 2 orbits. We get down to 5 players, and then the action started.
By this time, the player to my right was the chip leader with about 60,000 chips, I had 45,000, and the other stacks were 28k, 22k and 10k. Two of the shorter stack got it all-in preflop with QQ vs. 33, with the shorter stack having 33. Of course, a 3 of the river was a disaster for the other player, who went out on the very next hand with K9 vs. KJ. Down to 4 players, Luis the chip leader gets it all in with top pair vs. an OESFD, with his top pair holding. We are down to 3 with Luis having 100,000 chips, 40,000 for me and 20,000 for 3rd place.
It worked out well for me, because the short stack was on my left, so whenever Luis would fold the button, I would move all in with almost any two cards and the player would fold. At this point, blinds were 1k/2k, so each hand hurt the short stack a lot.
He was down to about 14k, and I had about 44-45k, and we got it all in, I had KQ, he has 63dd. Of course, he flops a flush and that was that... On to the next few hands where either Luis or I was raising, and the short stack was folding.
About 4 hands later, short stack limps, and Luis checks. Fireworks then ensue on a KQ9 flop, where the short stack has Q9 and Luis has KQ. Perfect scenario for me! KQ holds and I am heads-up.
First order of business was a deal, and we agreed that 2nd place would be $6k and $10k for first. Heads-up didn't take long, as I was outchipped 3-1, and we got it all in preflop with my KJ vs. his A7. Ace on the flop, and it was over.
Am I disappointed that I didn't win? Sure. But I will take the $6,000. A sweet amount for second place.
So, I finally have a live bankroll to play with. Hopefully we will be playing some more tournaments soon. And, I will be getting some more online to play some SCOOP tournaments and the MiniFTOPS.

Back in the swing of things...
...The whole BBT5 thing has gotten me motivated again. I will be depositing $100 on FT and PS and getting started again.
Haven't played in so long it seems, that I don't remember how to win anymore...

BBT5 HAS ARRIVED!
I guess with this thing starting up, I should make a post and get excited. Haven't played a lot of poker lately, but I would be more than excited to try and take down a seat to the WSOP.

Wow, has it been that long...
Let's just say, blogging and/or playing poker has not been high on my priority list these days. After making some serious life altering decision (being a better Christian, focussing on working out and getting in shape, being with my kids and family more, etc.) poker moved way down the list as far as importance.
I had taken my roll offline and left about $100 on between PS and FT, which is exactly where I still am, with $65 on PS and $35 on FT.
With the wife going out of town on Saturday with the kids for 7 weeks, I am jumping back on the poker train. I will probably be multitabling 10NL buying in for $5 to start, and then see where we go from there.
Also, I plan on playing some of the $3 rebuy tournaments that I never seem to get a chance to play.
Also on my hit list is trying to qualify for a few of the FTOPS tournaments coming up and actually playing them instead of gaying out and taking the T$.
Hope we can get this ship running, will start updating frequently now.

Downswing...
My downswing has now reached 8 buy-ins. I don’t know if it is a combination of loose play, getting bad beated, or what, but it definitely stinks. My roll has dropped to $400, and is only not closer to $300 because I won a $5 SNG on Full Tilt last night for $54. Other than that, cash has sucked, tournaments have sucked in general, and poker has not gone well.
Outside of poker, life is good, family is happy and healthy, job still exists, which is a blessing, my wife is making good money with her business, kids are doing well in school, my brother is in town for 2 months trying to figure out if he can move here for good or not, which is awesome.
5 days ago, I started P90X as well, which is a program put together by Tony Horton, and it’s 90 days of intense workouts, strict eating and 100% dedication. I am 5 days in, and even though I can’t physically see results yet, I can see how it works. It’s a rotation of strength and stretching exercises, where one day you are exhausted from your weight workout, the next day is 60 minutes of stretching, or kempo, or yoga, or something to soothe your body. The next day, you are raring to go for another strength exercise to get big.
I have decided to give it 90 days, and if it works like hell, I might do another 90 days to get even bigger, haven’t decided yet. We will see.
In other news, my best friend from high school is getting married up in Vancouver, BC in early May, so I have planned a week up there at that time. 7 days of just me and my dad, all the rest of my family here, a little poker, a little catching up with some friends I haven’t seen since graduation day 1997, and a bunch of R&R (and no work!)
I think I am going to move away from cash for a little while until I get my head straightened again, and just stick to some low-level SNGs for now, and see what happens. If I can snag myself a few tokens, I will play some tourneys as well, but don’t see that happening any time soon.

Down 1.5 BIs in the first 10 mins, and I end up 1.5BIs for the night
5-tabling again on FT last night. Again, trying to increase my aggression factor, play a lot of pots, raise at least 3 times per orbit, in order to get action when I do have good hands. Even though there are a lot of pots below that I won, there are many where I would lose 10-15BBs trying to be aggressive, re-raising people with nothing and getting played back at. But I guess that is the whole idea of being aggressive – to get action on your monsters.
Things were looking good to start when this hand came up, but of course I get screwed getting all my money in as a 3:1 favorite…
Fear_T_Rex: sry, thought that’s what you had, 50/50
By my calculations, I am 72% to win after that flop, but that is never good enough on FT, as demonstrated here on my next big hand that I get lucky on.
I am sure he had to be pretty sick about that one.
Here was a nice turn card for both of us that turned out to be better for me… :D

This one was like seeing the hottest girl in school, getting to make out with her, and then finding out it was your sister.
And then to end, here are the 3 sets that I hit in my session. The first one, I made some money, but not a lot. The last 2, both of my opponents insta-called my all-ins. And when I say instacall, I mean there wasn’t even a hesitation on either one. Of course, they are both drawing dead by the turn on both, and I am smiling all the way to the river.
So, I did win a lot of pretty big hands, but it cost me a lot of money being aggressive, and I ended up 1.5 BIs for the night. My roll between FT and PS is around $535, and my goal is to get up to $700 by the end of the month and switch to 25c/50c.

Down, then up, then up some more...
I was down nearly 2 buy-ins early in the session, mostly because I decided to be more aggressive in the session. I have been playing pretty passively, which as you know, doesn’t help you when you get big hands and raise, because everyone folds. So, I tried to take the lead on more hands.
It didn’t really work out well the first hand, as my 2 opponents had me drawing stone dead on the flop:
After that hand, things started working out a little better for me:
A brilliant limp with aces there gets the guy in trouble. Oh well, too bad for him. Then this is a fun hand. At first, I was dissapointed that I did not get all the money in on the turn, especially with that crappy river. But, that didn't stop the villain from calling my raise:
Then, I get it in here against aces as a 55/45 favorite and spike one of my many outs on the river:
Then, your standard donk re-re-raise with jacks. Um, what did you really think I had buddy, pocket nines??
Anyways, so I went from down nearly 2 buy-ins to up a little over a buy-in to end with a roll right around $500. A far cry from the $200ish bankroll from a few weeks ago.

I ended the weekend with a bankroll of $464, up slightly from my last update. I was up near $500 at one time, but right at the end of my last session, I failed to get there with an open-ended straight and flush draw against a weak top pair for a $50 pot. That was disappointing.
Got to play some live poker last night, we don’t play a huge buy-in game, $20 gets you 200 chips and we play 1/2 which is essentially $0.10/0.20. Thing is, since we lowered the stakes, we always end up with more money on the table by the end of the night, because people constantly re-buy. By the end of the night, there was $650 on our 8-handed table, and only 3 people were up at the end of the night.
My highlights included a $140 3-way all-in pot on a board of Th6s4s4h, I was holding Q4 (one of my favorite hands) after calling a marginal bet on the flop from my opponents that held 5s7s and KK. We got it all in on the turn after I sucked out with trip fours and the river was the Ts. The flush chaser got excited, but realized quickly that he was beat with my full house.
After dwindling to 1200 in chips ($120) I got involved in another 3-way all-in against 1 player with 400 chips, the other with about 200 chips, all-in pre-flop holding twoblackaces against AhKh and AcQc. They were both drawing dead on the turn and I was up to 1800 ($180) I cashed out at the end of the night with 1700, one other guys had about 1500 and another player had over 1000. The rest of the table had chips, but lower amounts than they bought in for.
My wife was happy for the win, and that will allow me to plan another poker get-together in 2 weeks. I am now up $650 in the last 3 weeks playing live and at least $200 online, so it has been a nice run.
Hope everyone else is doing well. One bit of news from my side is that we are having huge layoffs at the end of this month, and nobody knows who is staying and who is going. It has been tense around here lately, and it will be interesting to see what happens. I feel 50% confident that I will stay, as I have huge support from our corporate headquarters in Houston, but one never knows in this economy.

Still alive...
Though just barely… A bad run of cards, suckouts and overall disinterest has me down several hundred bucks in the last while. Also, took out a few bucks out to pay some bills, and am not left with much, I think I’ve got about $400 left between Stars and FT.
I haven’t really had much time to play these days, as my family has been in town for 3 weeks, and now my brother is staying with us for a couple of weeks over Christmas, and he and his wife are definitely against online poker, so I don’t play much, just to avoid any confrontation.
Probably will be the New Year before I get to do any more playing, so I will make any updates then.

Feeling very confident as I logged onto FT last night, pulled up 6 deep tables at 25c/50c NL, and off I went. No more than 10 minutes into my session, I had an unfortunate situation blind vs. blind, where we got it all in on an all-unders flop, I had KK in the BB and he had AA obviously in the SB. So, in the end, I was down 3 buy-ins and ended up 1 ½. A nice turn around that has me back over the $1,000 mark for my roll, $715 on FT and $320 on Stars, for a total of $1,035.
Won’t be playing much in the next couple of days, but will be trying to satellite into a couple of the FTOPS events. If I qualify, I am actually going to play them this time.

Update…

Ouch!!
That’s all I can say regarding my play recently. It has been ugly. After achieving a peak bankroll around $1,200, I managed to lose nearly 10 buy-ins over the next 3 days. What the (&^$(#&@^$ is that?? Another KK vs. AA situation pre-flop for one buy-in, a couple of 2nd nut flushes to the nut flush, top set against a flush draw that got there, a couple of runner-runner BS situations, was ugly.
At my lowest point, I was down to $713. This morning, it looks like we are back on the right track. That, or I just got some good cards. Managed a full buy-in win with raising from the cut-off with 46dd, getting called by the button and BB. Flop comes 245 rainbow. Check, I bet $3, both call. Turn is a beautiful 3 of diamonds, putting 2 diamonds on board. Check, I check, button bets $8, BB folds, I raise to $24, he re-raises all-in, I call, he has an A for a lower straight, ship the $105 pot.
Also managed a full buy-in on a raised pot, I call on the button, 5 players to the flop. I have KJss. Flop comes KJ4 rainbow. Check, check, check, MP bets $7, I raise to $17, 1 flat caller, MP raises to $27, I re-raise all in, they both fold?? Anyways, it was a nice win.
So, after a slight comeback, my roll looks like this:
